It is confirmed. Oscar-winning actress Zoe Saldaña will be in Santo Domingo to grace the stage at the 40th annual Premios Soberanos on 25 March 2025. The announcement was made Sunday, 9 March 2025 by the Association of Art Critics (Acroarte). The awards recognize the better performances in 58 categories spanning the fields of film, the classics, communication, and popular entertainment. The televised show is a standout celebration of national music and art and a way to become up to date with what is popular in Dominican show business.
Saldaña, a Dominican-American actress who recently won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the musical drama Emilia Pérez, will be one of the night’s featured stars as the prestigious awards ceremony celebrates its anniversary. Saldaña has co-hosted the awards in the past. She is the daughter of a Dominican father who died when she was nine years old, but her step father also is Dominican. Her mother is Puerto Rican. She was raised between the DR and New York City.
“To commemorate our 40th edition of Premios Soberano with Zoe Saldaña’s presence gives us even more reason to celebrate,” said Wanda Sánchez, president of Acroarte. “It is a great honor for us to have her, not only because of the great achievements she has reached in her career but also because she represents a great example for Dominicans who achieve their dreams based on talent, hard work, preparation, and perseverance.”
Saldaña had previously co-hosted the ceremony in 2005 alongside Freddy Ginebra. She now will be recognized not only for her international success as a leading figure in the film industry but also as a symbol of Latin achievement in Hollywood.
In addition to her Oscar, Saldaña has received numerous other accolades for her performance in Emilia Pérez, including the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. She is also nominated for a Premio Soberano as “Outstanding Actor/Actress Abroad” for her work in both Emilia Pérez and the series Lioness.
The Premios Soberanos, sponsored by Cervecería Nacional Dominicana and BanReservas, will be produced by César Suárez Jr. The event will be broadcast live from the Teatro Nacional beginning at 7:00 pm.
