On 6 May 2025, the Public Ministry, the prosecutor arm of the Attorney General Office seized
the property where the Jet Set nightclub operated, following the devastating collapse that claimed the lives of more than 234 people and injured over 180 others during a live concert featuring merengue artist Rubby Pérez, who was among the fatalities. The tragedy occurred in the early hours of 8 April 2025.
Accompanied by attorneys for club owner Antonio Espaillat, including Miguel Valerio—who is coordinating the defense—the Public Ministry placed a “seized” sign on the establishment. When approached by journalists from Listín Diario, Valerio stated that this action is standard procedure during an investigation.
Meanwhile, complaints and reports from injured victims continue to pour into the National District Attorney’s Office.
Listin Diario reports that the Public Ministry’s investigation into Jet Set comes after Espaillat made himself available to authorities on April 15th. On April 19th, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) took action amid reports that Espaillat was attempting to transfer assets in his name, a move they interpreted as an attempt to avoid compensating the victims of the nightclub collapse.
The Attorney General Office is investigating the case to determine the causes and responsibilities in the collapse of the roof.
