The race for the Dominican Winter Baseball League (Lidom) Championship has tightened significantly following pivotal matchups on 6 January 2026. The Toros del Este (La Romana) have officially claimed sole possession of first place, while the Aguilas Cibaeñas (Santiago) have successfully clawed back into contention.
The momentum in the league has shifted over the last 48 hours. After defeating the Leones on 5 January to force a tie, the Toros continued their hot streak with another victory over the Escogido, the capital city team. This marks four consecutive wins for the Romanenses, catapulting them to the top of the leaderboard and leaving the Leones in second place.
Meanwhile, the Aguilas came out on top in their turn against the Gigantes del Cibao. Following the rainout on Monday, 5 January, the Aguilas took care of business in the rescheduled game on 6 January at Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macoris. By defeating the Gigantes, the Águilas have narrowed the gap to just 1.5 games behind the lead, keeping their playoff hopes very much alive. The Aguilas had led through most of the regular season.
The Toros del Este are now in first place after their recent 4-game winning streak followed by the Leones del Escogido, one game behind. The Aguilas are very close, 1.5 games behind. The Gigantes del Cibao have yet to win a game in this round robin series.

The top two winners will then decide the winner of the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball 2025-26 Championship and the representative of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series to take place in Mexico.
