Small business deadline approaching for new tax billing system implementation

On the fiscal front, small business (Mipymes) are facing a strict 15 May 2026 deadline for the mandatory implementation of the electronic invoicing system. This new regime, overseen by the Tax Agency (DGII), is designed to reduce tax evasion and streamline fiscal reporting, but it has met with resistance from small business owners who cite the high cost of digital integration and the lack of reliable internet in remote provinces.

The government has promised technical support, but analysts warn that if the deadline is not extended, a significant percentage of small businesses could face heavy fines or forced closures.
