El Prado in the Streets transforms is first of the new Rainieri Cultural Center

The Rainieri Cultural Center and the Frank & Haydée Rainieri Foundation inaugurated the “El Prado in the Streets” exhibition on Friday, 17 April 2026. The initiative brings 77 full-scale photographic reproductions of masterpieces from Spain’s Museo Nacional del Prado to the public squares and walkways of the Puntacana enclave, where Punta Cana got its start.

The exhibition, part of the broader “El Prado among us” (El Prado en nosotros) project, is a collaborative effort involving the Centro León in Santiago, the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, KahKow, and Banco Popular Dominicano, with the support of the Amigos del Museo del Prado Foundation in Spain.

A journey through art history
Curated by Sara Hermann and Orlando Isaac, the collection spans from the 12th century to the early 20th century. The display allows residents and tourists to encounter iconic works of Western art in a casual, pedestrian setting without the barriers of a traditional museum.

Key masterpieces featured in the exhibition include:
• Fra Angelico: The Annunciation
• Francisco de Goya: The 3rd of May 1808
• Velázquez: The Surrender of Breda
• Hieronymus Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delights

The exhibition layout
The display is strategically integrated into the urban fabric of Punta Cana Village. It begins at the esplanade of the Rainieri Cultural Center, extends toward the Nuestra Señora de Punta Cana Chapel, and continues along the pedestrian paths connecting to Galerías Puntacana.

The exhibition is divided into specific zones using self-supporting easels and wall mounts:
• Rainieri Cultural Center Esplanade: 12 easels featuring 22 works.
• The Chapel: 2 easels with 4 works.
• Paseo de las Musas (Walk of the Muses): A specialized section featuring 13 works focused on the representation of women throughout art history.
• Commercial Areas: Various installations located near La Cava, Tienda Hipólito, and the Phase 4 esplanade of the Village.

Cultural impact
Following successful runs in Santiago and the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, the Punta Cana edition includes new pieces to refresh the experience. During the opening ceremony, María Amalia León, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and Centro León, joined Frank and Haydée Rainieri to emphasize the importance of making high-level culture accessible to the everyday citizen.

The exhibition is free to the public and will remain on display until July 2026, offering an extended window for international visitors and the local community to engage with the hallmarks of the Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools of painting.
