The D.R., India seeking to establish closer relations

The Foreign Minster of the D.R., Carlos Morales Troncoso, met last week with the Director of the Latin American High Commission for India, Vibya Bushan Soni, in order to discuss efforts to forge closer relations between the two nations that could eventually lead to official diplomatic relations. During his visit to Santo Domingo, Mr. Soni said that India is interested in giving financial and technical assistance to the D.R., particularly in the area of education. He and Mr. Morales Troncoso discussed the establishment of bilateral agreements for the establishment of Indian educational institutions here, and the exchange of industrial technology with emphasis in the area of textiles. Mr. Morales Troncoso also said that President Joaquín Balaguer has approved a project, prepared in conjunction with Mr. Soni, that would establish the appointment of non-resident ambassadors between India and the D.R.
