Let’s stop viruses from spreading on public transport

The Ministry of Public Health, the National Transit and Transport Institute (Intrant) and the Metro Office (Opret) have distributed flyers with health prevention tips for metro and skylift passengers. These include avoiding the use of the mass transit services if suffering from fever or cough. Frequent washing of hands using soap for at least 20 seconds or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The Public Health authorities encourage people not to touch their face with unwashed hands. This means not touching eyes, nose or mouth. In case of coughing or sneezing, people are urged to cover mouth and nose with a flexed elbow, sleeve or handkerchief. People are also encouraged to stay home if they are not feeling well.

Meanwhile, the government OMSA bus service said that they have sanitized the city buses.

On Sunday, 1 March, the Ministry of Public Health confirmed the country’s first infected Covid-19 disease person, an Italian tourist who had arrived on 22 February without symptoms. The Italian is suffering a mild case and is in isolation at the Ramon de Lara Hospital in San Isidro Air Base.
