Peynado meets with Balaguer to inform him about his journey abroad

Vice President Jacinto Peynado met President Balaguer for ten minutes, just five minutes after the latter received the presidential candidate of the PLD, Leonel Fernández. Upon leaving the meeting, Jacinto Peynado said that he is a realistic man with his feet on the ground. He explained that he visited the President to inform him that he would travel to New York for family reasons, as his mother had suffered an accident. He said he would be out of the country until Sunday, but that “the campaign continues.” Mr Peynado told the press: “There are many people here… many Dominicans who jump to conclusions and get very nervous, but I am accustomed to confronting realities.” He said, “I feel very happy and have just spoken with the President of the Republic who reiterated his support for my candidature. He said he was not aware that anyone in the government or the PRSC was conspiring against him.”
