The former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, is expected in Santo Domingo on 22 April. He participated as an observer in the 1990 election following an invitation by the then president of the JCE, Froilán Tavares. He will visit on behalf of the Carter Institute to seek information on the Dominican electoral process. He will not participate as an observer in the next election.
