New international fashion shop to open in city
Liz Claiborne, the line of women’s and men’s clothing with annual sales of more than US$2 thousand million will soon open a shop in Santo Domingo. It will be on Calle Hatuey, next door to the Arte Vitral shop and facing Plaza Central. Liz Claiborne has been manufacturing garments in the Dominican Republic since 1992, when it opened offices that supervise the monthly export of more than half a million pieces of clothing from its industrial free zone.
The opening of the Santo Domingo shop is part of an aggressive global expansion project. The company was founded in New York City in 1976 by designer Liz Claiborne, Art Artemberg, Leonard Boxer and Jerome A. Chazen. The global expansion program calls for the opening of new retail outlets in the Far East, South and Central America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
