Balaguer swears he supports Peynado

Participating in the first major campaign rally with Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC) candidate Jacinto Peynado and his vice president Maribel Gassó, President Balaguer swore “before the Santísima Virgen de la Altagracia” and the Dominican people that he supports the two as the candidates for his political party. President Balaguer joined Jacinto Peynado in a rally held in Higuey and brought back the 1994 political campaign theme of nationalism. “I invite, all reformistas to stick together, to attend the elections as a single force, certain that on their side is Duarte, Sánchez and Mella; and on the other side, the anti-Dominican, anti-fatherland,” said the President. He said that the reformistas represent “political equilibrium, moderation and good sense” in the country. Mr Peynado’s rival for the presidential nomination, former Vice President and present Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso was also present at the rally. During the event, Jacinto Peynado stated that he hopes that the President will become his adviser in the case of his winning the next election. He also said that Dr Balaguer will continue being his spiritual leader.
