D.R. trade with Cuba

A report in Listin Diario by journalist Carmen Carvajal says that despite the OAS-sponsored trade embargo on Cuba, the Dominican Republic carried out trade with Cuba amounting to RD$100 million in 1995. Furthermore, the author quotes the magazine “World Business” as indicating that Dominicans have invested over RD$10 million in the neighboring Caribbean island. Trade relations between both countries began with the establishment of weekly Cubana de Aviación flights several years back. Notwithstanding its trading ties, the Dominican Republic does not maintain diplomatic relations with Cuba.

The report states that Dominicans export finished industrial products and raw materials to Cuba, and imports steel reinforcing rods for construction, clinker, and medical products.
