CDE receiving help in investment for new power lines

The Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad (CDE), has received more than RD$2,000 million (US$147.75 million) from the Interamerican Development Bank, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the Investment Fund of Venezuela and the government of Spain for the repairing of power lines, which have been one of the main causes of the frequent power cuts in the D.R. in recent years. The poor state of the distribution network of the state-owned electricity company causes a loss of 25-30% of the electricity produced – approximately 200,000 kilowatts.

It is also hoped, that together with these repairs, the illegal connections, which cost the CDE millions each year, can be stopped.
