Italian Chambers of Commerce in Santo Domingo

Meeting in Santo Domingo last week, the chambers of commerce of Italy in Latin America decided to formulate and define common programs for economics, trade, and investment.

In a document called “Compromiso de Santo Domingo,” the Italian chambers of commerce in Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic consider it is timely that there be a permanent forum for discussion and coordination among the chambers.

They agreed to evaluate and re-launch the role of the business community between Italy and local chambers to contribute to economic and social growth in the participating countries.

The network of Italian chambers of Commerce in Central and South America and the Caribbean together with the directors of the Association of Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad met to study investment possibilities in the country, primarily in the industrial free zones.

The European businessmen concluded at the end of the meeting that: “There are conditions for expanding the promising reciprocal trade relationships in new sectors linked to development and technology, and the transition towards a pluralist society and increased opening of markets that require modern work methods and strategies.”
