The Department of National Accounts of the Central Bank announced the development of a Satellite Account for Tourism (SAT) for the Dominican Republic, sponsored by the World Tourism Organization (WTO). This project measures the affect of this sector on the economy. Although Canada had started compiling a SAT, this is the first one that has been completed on a preliminary basis and, as a result,was highly praised when it was presented by Olga Díaz Mora, director of the Department of National Accounts and Economics Statistics in a recent WTO meeting held in Madrid.
