Roberto Saladin, an ex-governor of the Central Bank, has requested the Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana (JAD) to publish the levels of protection tariffs, item by item, with which the majority of the countries protect their agricultural and meat products, within the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the framework of the Uruguay Round (GATT 94). He pointed out to the JAD that some interested parties were not in favor of changing the present arrangement and are not encouraging any new moves because they feel it not to be in their own interests, and they also believe that the new government is not going to apply them.
