According to the coinciding opinions of the economist Juan Guilliani Cury and Pedro Féliz, president of Financiera Credicorp, S.A.., the next government must be careful about subsidies, and it should not permit them to enter the agricultural sector. Juan Guilliani, as well as Pedro Féliz, consider that one must seek other financing mechanisms for agriculture, instead of the commercial banks.
Mr Guilliani also added that external financing could play an important role. This week, representatives of the agricultural sector advised vice president-elect Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, in a meeting, that the established interest rate would not be greater than 12 percent per annum for loans to that sector. Guilliani Cury is of the opinion that the commercial banks cannot assume that role, and that it must be the task of the Banco Agrícola.
