Judge in charge of murder case promises thorough investigation

Judge Alexis Henriquez Nuñez, who has been conducting the follow-up investigation into the Jose Rafael Llenas Aybar murder case after the arrest of the two confessed killers, has pledged to continue his questioning of key witnesses, in the wake of a press conference held last week by the parents of the slain boy. The investigation has been frozen for two weeks while Judge Henriquez Nunez awaited the granting of an extension of his original 60-day period to conduct the questioning.

Cecilio Perez Gomez, the general prosecutor of the Santo Domingo Court of Appeals, has so far refused to give the extension, claiming that the judge has not properly outlined his objectives for further questioning, nor has he properly documented the interviews that he has already conducted.

At the time of going to press, Mr. Perez Gomez had yet to make a decision on a second request by Judge Henriquez Nuñez, who promised to continue his questioning until he got to the bottom of the case, including asking the soon to be sworn-in President Leonel Fernandez to lift the diplomatic immunity of the family of former Argentine Ambassador to the D.R.

Teresa Meccia de Palma, whose son has been implicated in the murder through the testimony of one of the confessed killers.
