The government has increased the monthly subsidy for the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad (CDE) by RD$200 million. The extra money represents an increase of almost 100% compared to that made by the previous government of President Balaguer. Dr Balaguer gave RD$40 million monthly for payment of the electricity consumed by the public entities and another US$4.5 million for the electricity supplied by Smith-Enron, the private power generators.
