President Leonel Fernandez has appointed a government commission to reappraise the contract under which the Shell Company operates the Dominican Petroleum Refinery. According to presidential decree No. 410, a commission consisting of the president of the Refinery, Rhadames Segura, the Minister of Finance, Daniel Toribio, Hector Valdez, the governor of the Central Bank, the assistant technical secretary to the presidency Eduardo Selman and the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Luis Manuel Bonetti. The representative of Shell in the D.R., Pedro Pablo Cabral, expressed the company’s willingness to sit down with the government and discuss the terms of the contract signed on 25 November, 1969, under which Shell currently operates the Refinery.
