President Leonel Fernández has raised his salary, the vice president’s, the Junta Central Electoral (JCE) judges, the president of the supreme court, the senate and the chamber of deputies, as well as the ministers and high rank military officers. Through decree 485-96, President Fernández increased his salary from RD$3,500 to RD$90,000 monthly, and the vice president’s to RD$70,000. The JCE judges, the national attorney general, the ministers and other executives of the same level, will now earn RD$50,000.
The decree also raises the salaries for ex-presidents to RD$60,000 and their widows to RD$50,000; RD$45,000 for deputy ministers and executives of the same rank. Also, the general directors of the government institutions, the chief of police and the presidential military assistant will now earn RD$45,000.
