Deputies approve loan agreement with IDB for US$155 million to reduce electricity losses

The Chamber of Deputies approved borrowing US$155 million from the InterAmerican Development Bank to reduce electricity grid losses. The funds are part of the Program for the Expansion of Networks and Reduction for Technical Electricity Losses in Distribution. The project is part of the Master Plan for the Expansion of the Distribution System (PMESD). The loan contract had already passed in the Senate on 29 January 2021.

It seeks to strengthen the distribution network, increase the safety and quality of electricity supply, increase the hours of service in the areas where the project is implemented and increase the number of new customers in the intervened areas.
