The ministries of sports of Colombia and the Dominican Republic are doing a swap in sports know-how.
Key officials from the Ministry of Sports of Colombia were in the Dominican Republic last week to tour MLB baseball academies and the venues at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, where the Ministry of Sports is based. The meetings were a follow-up after the recent visit of President Ivan Duque of Colombia.
“We are following up on the agreements signed by both Presidents,” Camacho explained. “We all want to learn. We want to learn about soccer and cycling in Colombia, in exchange for teaching the Colombians about the development of the sport of baseball in the Dominican Republic,” Camacho said.
Camacho hosted his Colombian colleague in visits to baseball academies run by the Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels.
Baseball Commissioner Noboa highlighted that Colombia already has a great tradition in baseball, especially in coastal cities, such as Medellín and Barranquilla.
Colombian Ambassador Daniel Cabral accompanied the Colombian delegation on the visits.
Ramón Jesurúm, president of the Colombian Soccer Federation, was part of the mission for Colombia.
During the visit to the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the mission visited the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium and the Bicycle Pavilion. Both facilities require major repairs. The venues are scheduled to be the site of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2026.
