Monitoring the storms as they make their way west through the Caribbean

Conditions are in place for the development of a tropical depression. The path storms take as they move west to enter the Caribbean takes time to determine. A depression is the next level of a tropical wave and troughs that have been affecting the Dominican Republic bringing welcome rains after months of intense drought at the start of the year.

Onamet says it is monitoring the development and evolution of the low pressure area at the moment associated with a tropical wave that is located several hundred kilometers southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, and which it says has a high probability of 90% to become a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.

Onamet alerts operators of small and fragile boats to navigate close to the coasts and not to venture offshore, from Beata Island (Pedernales) to Punta Aguilas (Pedernales).

Meanwhile the Weather Office (Onamet) forecasts sunny skies and scattered showers nationwide, with hot temperatures and lots of humidity.
