On Wednesday, 23 October 2024 many government agencies carried out an earthquake drill. Several schools joined in the practice drill. Just hours later there was a 3.8 tremor that made the earlier practice all the more important as buildings were evacuated as per the protocol.
Just a week or so before, on 14 October, there was a significant shake, as a 4.4 quake hit the eastern portion of the Cibao and was felt as far away as Santiago, and Santo Domingo.
A total of 22 small and medium seismic movements were recorded in just 48 hours last week. The events were recorded at the Seismic Department at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
