In the DR, traffic cops do not enforce traffic laws with motorcyclists. For years, people have been complaining that the negligence of local authorities in applying the law to motorcyclists is empowering these in the wrong way. Making matters worse, motorcyclists are known to band together if anything happens to their kind.
The inevitable happened this Sunday, 19 April 2026. A garbage dump truck driver who had brushed a motorcyclist saw himself under the siege of eight motorcyclists. He bled to death when one of the motorcyclists knifed him.
Ironically, he had entered the Santiago Justice headquarters seeking protection.
Minister of Interior and Police Faride Raful pledged that the case not escape justice.
