Construction begins (again) on Santiago North Beltway

The Ministry of Public Works has restarted construction work on the Santiago Northern Beltway, a US$270 million, 24-kilometer project, which is the project in greatest demand by business and civil society organizations in the nation’s second largest city. It has been some 18 years since work started on the roadway around the northern reaches of the city. The beltway will link the Duarte Highway on the east side of the city with the Joaquin Balaguer Highway on the west side of the city towards Navarrete and Puerto Plata. Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo said that he was sure that the project would be finished during President Medina’s term of office. Odebrecht and the Estrella Group will be in charge of the construction.
