Case against Senator Felix Bautista may be reopened

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has said that he believes that the judges will reverse the decision not to proceed with the case of corruption against Senator Felix Bautista and six co-defendants. The Supreme Court of Justice authorized the appeal and the case is due to be heard today, 30 June 2015, at 9am by Judges Miriam German, Fran Euclides Soto and Esther Angelan Casas Novas.

Dominguez Brito said that the appeal is based on a firm legal foundation of the government’s case against the defendants who are accused of corruption and money laundering.

He went on to say that he and his team were optimistic and trusted in the justice system. He assured that anyone who used public funds for their own personal gain would receive the appropriate punishment.

In March this year, Supreme Court Judge, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra dismissed the case against Senator Felix Bautista, as well as Jose Elias Hernandez Garcia, Bolivar Antonio Ventura Rodriguez, Carlos Manuel Ozoria Martinez, Grisel Araceli Soler Pimentel, Soraida Abreu Martinez and Bienvenido Apolinar Breton Medina.

Senator Felix Bautista was in charge of the public works construction office of the Presidency during the governments of former President Leonel Fernandez. He is also secretary of organization of the ruling PLD party and a member of the influential Political Committee.
