On Monday 3 August, 2015, a fire began in the early hours of the morning in the Pedro Santana jail in El Seibo, in the east.
A short circuit in the electrical lines is suspect to have caused the fire that affected cells 10 and 11 and burned mattresses and clothes belonging to the inmates. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
The local fire brigade responded to the fire and the inmates were led into the prison yard to avoid any injuries.
