Santo Domingo judge Jose Gregorio Bautista has sent Pedro Jose Gutierrez Nova to one year of pre-trial detention in La Victoria jail in Santo Domingo. Gutierrez Nova, who is the son of high-ranking PLD official Insurance Superintendent Euclides Gutierrez Felix, is accused of identity fraud as well as possession of an illegal weapon.
Although the Public Prosecution service said that he was a flight risk, when he left the courtroom Gutierrez Nova branded the sentence unfair and accused the Prosecution service of persecution, adding that he would be appealing. He is accused of forging the signature of the Minister of Interior and Police, Jose Ramon Fadul but has maintained his innocence.
