President Hipólito Mejía appointed Onésimo González as the new executive director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) in Santo Domingo and AMETRASAN, the Santiago counterpart.

President Hipólito Mejía appointed Rear Admiral Alberto Humeau Hidalgo as Chief of the Navy. Humeau Hidalgo was formerly in charge of the Drug Control Department. The Navy has been commended internationally for its efforts at combating drugs.
