President Hipolito Mejia has sent to the Senate a bill that encourages the development of private yachting and sailing. The idea is to make the DR competitive with other Caribbean ports in regards to this type of tourism. (7 September 2001)

The Venezuelan airline Aeropostal has won the tender to operate Dominicana Airline (CDA), the Dominican state airline that has been grounded for over 10 years.
