The Caribbean Tourism Organization is offering scholarships for Dominicans interested in studying tourism and hospitality. The scholarships are worth up to US$15,000 and are for citizens of Caribbean nations who want to study at post-graduate level (masters) and US$2,500 for students pursuing tourism/hospitality studies at the certificate, diploma, associate degree or undergraduate level. The Association of Hotels of Santo Domingo has just released their new official tourism guide, “IN Santo Domingo.” The guide will be available in city hotel rooms and has sections on places to visit, shopping, nightlife, restaurants, lodging, a calendar of events and maps. Santo Domingo has more than 4,500 hotel rooms.

The upcoming birthday of Dominican founding father, Juan Pablo Duarte means a long weekend in the DR. Because Duarte’s birthday falls on a Friday this year, Dominicans get the following Monday off. The Punta Cana Group has completed the construction of new community recreational facilities in Veron, the nearest town to the Punta Cana tourism development.
