The Dominican government owes power generation companies US$555.2 million, as of November. The Dominican Association of Electricity Industry said that the government owes AES Dominicana alone US$202.6 million, as reported in Listin Diario. The arrears are believed to be behind an increase in blackouts nationwide.

The first 10 months of the year have generated RD$3.8 billion for the government in tourist card and exit taxes on travelers.
