Back to school

School starts nationwide on Monday, 3 September. The Ministry of Education says 2,337,920 students have enrolled in elementary and high school. This is broken down into 1,831,289 in the public school system and 461,936 in private schools. El Siglo newspaper reports that the Ministry says 100,00 new students have registered.

Computer schools complain of unfair government competition

The National Association of Informatics Companies (Aneinfo) is complaining that a new US$300 million government plan to open computer schools nationwide will put them out of business, says El Caribe newspaper.
