Two companies have pre-qualified to bid for the assets of the bankrupt state airline, Dominicana de Aviacion (CDA). Traffic increased 43.3% in the first three months of the year through the Punta Cana International Airport according to Hoy newspaper. Airport statistics show 268,710 arrivals, 83,832 more than last year for the same period. In January there were 89,966 arrivals; February 90,614 arrivals; March 60,718 arrivals. Aerodom, the management company of the Puerto Plata and Las Americas international airports, announced the appointment of Alex Santana as executive director of that organization. Santana was regional director of Continental Airlines at the time of the appointment. (11 May 2000)

The new operators of the Las Americas, the Consorcio Empresarial Aerodom, have organized the Department of Porters of the Las Americas International Airport. Vancouver Airport Services is in charge of the Las Americas airport operation. The number of porters has been reduced from 1,000 to 300, according to a news release. (9 May 2000)
