Health Minister Plutarco Arias visited gender violence victim Yocairi Amarante Rodríguez at the Pearl F. Ort Burn Unit at the Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital on Monday, 5 October 2020. He guaranteed that the Ministry of Public Health will do what is necessary to help the young woman recover as best as possible. The 19-year old suffered severe burns after the chemical known as “Devil’s Acid” was thrown at her when she had boarded a shared taxi.

The Ministry of Public health is covering the expenses to help her recover. One of the best burn plastic surgeons in the country has been assigned to her case.
Arias also checked in on the three men, ages 73, 41 and 25 that were interned at the burn unit after suffering severe burns after the explosion of a propane gas plant in Licey, Santiago. The men are in grave condition. Four children also victims of the blaze are interned in the Arturo Grullon Children’s Hospital in Santiago in grave condition.
