Deadly Moto Racing

Yesterday, for the first time, a guy tried to race me, on the new santiago bypass......
I was driving fast-----one of the rare times I am on a road, a real smooth road......
The guy was driving a BMW X6M....... at least a 100 grand......and looked if he had shaved about twice in his life.......

I can respect that. But obviously this young man never learned such respect.

I hope this unfortunate incident shook up his friends enough where they now understand they are not indestructible...

It's a cultural thing, like...
- those motoconchos competing in speed races (spectators bet on them);
- truck and bus drivers brush everybody off the road in their path;
- "hijos de mami y papi" like to display their 'supercarros' in races along the Santo Domingo avenidas...

Thats not true. Many times I've seen people carry someone that has been injured in the back of a truck. Or in a car. Is not the proper way to do it, but when Dominicans can help they do.

Was driving out to the Hard Rock Casino on our last visit on a Saturday afternoon and there was a moto concho laying sprawled on the pavement beside a large tour bus, that had smacked him off the bike to the pavement and cracked his gourd like a over-ripe coconut. Blood everywhere, no pulse and a bus driver ringing his hands over the body. No police, no ambulance, no coroner on the site and it looked like the accident (incident) had happened quite a while before we passed. Does ANYONE know if the DR has a Good Samaritan Law?

never nice to see one go.....but i do enjoy the road ...i am a front runner...i will take the middle lane up the hill. on a small bike these guys get into unexpected situations while racing all out . car pops out, kid runs across.. the street...and no helmet..
i doubt they had a small wager going...
you gotta be careful here...these roads are dangerous..i saw a photo of a german tourist with a fence pole thru him.impaled...he was on a passola pole dropped off and went right thru his trachea...scary....you should have seen his eyes...debris falls from loaded trucks garbage ......evan walking by the side of road be careful aware.....

Not hate, reality of the situation. The majority of moto drivers have no formal training, and no license. They are skilled drivers in the sense that they can turn on a dime, do wheelies, and have quick reaction times. They however have no concept of driving rules/laws, courtesy, or what constitutes a dangerous act, either for them or someone else. Car drivers are only slightly better.

If I had a nickel* for every time I've seen morons on the Las Americas Highway between the airport tolls and the Avenida Charles de Gaulle racing motorbikes and some laying down on their bikes weaving in an out of lanes I could buy a private plane, a big house with an airstrip on a mountain with an ocean view and hire a security staff of retired Mossad.

Correct its horrible for the family and sometimes you get a stereotypical response like this because too often its guys like this and millions of others lack common sense to the highest degree and risk the lives of innocent bystanders while they drive/ride in an extreme negligent manner.
So when something like this happens its not a BIG surprise! A little more home schooling on the "right and wrongs" could go a long way here!!!
