interesting article in el caribe today referring to the situation in the south of DR, for a change.
http://www.elcaribe.com.do/2018/04/...s-utilizan-a-sus-ninas-como-activo-economico/
50.9% of the interviewed aged 13 to 20 had sex at least once. 26.8% had sex with a person at least 10 years older, 11% had sex in return for money or other goods.
the article also says that parents treat their kids as economic assets.

The south of the country has been singled out before as a region with serious numbers of underage pregnancies.

This is how 99% of the teenage pregnancies and underage sex in DR happen. (I doubt she is 18.) BTW the guy probably did have fake Jordans.:laugh::laugh:

Cannot understand the jist of the convo; apart from the cuss words.

Good riddance!

But but but the comments say what a nice guy he was and his helpfulness.
I think he got off a little easy. should have taken him out to Juan Bosch bridge had wire tied around his genitals and a large rock and then throw the rock off the bridge. He can make up his own mind to either stand fast or jump.

Look up child molestation cases in the US. Double digit sentences...50 years++ in many cases. Basically life sentences depending on the number of victims and turpitude of the crimes.

Look up internet child pornography cases in the US. The fed shows up at your house, seizes hundreds if not 1000's of sickening images, takes you away in cuffs and you are never seen again.

The DR is lightyears behind.

You can't compare the US and DR in this respect. I am not disagreeing that sexual abuse is not a big problem in the DR and all over the world. In the DR it's a matter of priority and their ability to police this issue.

Like I said, lightyears behind. So what are the priorities here?

So what do you want to compare it to?

Infrastructure, road building, bridges, electricity, eradicating corruption, enviornmental concerns, education?

What are the "priorities?"

If anyone in this country is really serious about solving the pedaphile
problem here they are first going to have to rid this country of corruption.
Good luck with that. These young girls who often end up with older,
in some cases much older men do it for money or gifts. Poverty
will never be erraticated so long as you have a well organized gang
of thieves running the show. Sucks but thats just how it is. Its been this
way for generations and I don't it changing anytime soon.

I guess nobody found time to read the DR1 News yesterday and the World Vision Report contained within a piece of news (DR has relatively low levels of child abuse).

https://www.wvi.org/sites/default/files/World Vision - 2017 Regional Report - OCT 5.pdf

It is not acceptable what goes on in DR in terms of child violence which includes sexual violence, but the report finds that DR is actually not as bad as many Latin American countries. According to the report Brazil, Peru and Mexico are worse as is Colombia, Bolivia, Guatemala and El Salvador.

The prevalence of this violent and life disturbing behavior against children can only be addressed through greater awareness.

As Post #89 proves, there is a need to clean up Sosua (despite some protestations here in relation to Cheddy Garcias remarks) where sex tourism go hand in hand with those that prey on children for gain.

I think that security is a factor too... not a small factor.

Many chicas are now 'on to' the chico game and don't like it.

An older man or a Gringo is a more stable relationship in their eyes.... a better life
in more ways than financial.

Ask around - see what you find/hear

10 pages puh.. Is there any objective with this thread or is not beaten to death several times already? All normal people agrees that child molesters must get caught and sent to jail (I actually want them to suffer much more but I better stop here..).

Maybe some of you wants to argue about this back and fourth to the end of time but..

If you see something make sure to report it to wherever it needs to be reported. Not sure what else to do honestly. The culture in the DR is not going to be changed by foreigners that I am quite sure of.

Alida knows many, many super nice Dominican girls, not the "chica" types, who want nothing to do with a "typical" Dominican male.

When you live in a country were prostitution is legal you have a very high risk of crossing the line and what's considered legal turns into abuse. Although this seems very straight forward it is not always so and there are many layers and gray areas. It's easy to get for you to get on your high horse and condemn everyone. That is your right but what makes it complicated is that fine line that always seems to get blurred when you live in a country that has a high public persona of corruption in all segments of society. The most vulnerable always seem to suffer.
