My wife tell me that in the 1960s and 70s growing up in Jarabacoa she remembers at least 3 whorehouses, one with a block of whre she lived. There were almost no foreign tourists in those days.

I can tell you back in the Seventies, this country was saturated with "Casas de Citas" and whore bars. This is not second hand info... I personally saw and visited many of them.

There was no way one could begin to count how many there were in Santo Domingo, but I'd guess easily over a hundred. Go into Villa Juanita today and see how many you can find. (Hint: A lot)

One of the more famous Casas was run by a woman named Australia, who specialized in underage virgins.

Her husband was a General, and most of her clients were high ranking officials in the government (Police, Military, politicians)

No gringos around back then - all of them catered to Dominicans.

What happened? The internet. No doubt in my mind.

Is the DR gov't doing enought to fight child pornography and prositution against both that that live her and those that come from abroad? Are celebrities doing anything at all to help?

examples if possiible please...

Celebrities??? I don't think celebrities could help in anything. 99% have their heads up their own a**'s they are completely out of touch with reality.

The other day I was in Jumbo Luperon and they were filming another Movie with all the usual actors.

Since I was walking right by them, I smiled and greeted a couple of them, including Cheddy.

The other actors smiled and shook hands. Cheddy? Looked right at me like I was scum of the earth and said nothing.

I've run into a lot of actors here (some various times) and I've never received a response like that.

Cheddy can take her "opinions" and stick them where the sun don't shine.

I mentioned celebrities since many are looked up to. Figured they could use their fame as a platform to raise awareness.

That space you refer to on Cheddy is probably rarely vacant.

I understand but at least in the states I know what those idiots have to say has little to know impact on the average person. Obviously any help in that matter would be great.

I agree with you. In the states the government does also crack down. I wonder how much goverment resources are being used to fight and also avoid this from happening. Tourism dependencay can make certain people look the other way.

they are certainly doing something. PGR has departments for human trafficking and technological crimes - which sort of goes hand in hand when child prostitution is concerned.

after years - if not decades - of turning a blind eye to this issue things are changing for the better.

I really hope you are right. Children that suffer this at the hands of these creeps, unless receiving LOTS of help and even then carry it with them for life.

WE are talking of underage child Molestation and sexual exploitation here!
One poster had it right. It will take ages if at all for these kids to get past the trauma.
In my opinion, the only way to address the issue if with heavy Policing in the matter and even heavier fines and terms in La Victoria. To accomplish heavy policing means a Special Task Force that is dedicated to cleaning up the act ;and, in return acting appropriately.
I understand this is ''pipe dreaming'' ..... just had to say it!
Back in the Forties in Rural Canada 'Pedophiles' were seldom , if ever, reported to the Police... all hush, hush.
It was considered a social disgrace if a child accused an adult with touching, molesting and sexual acts. The disgrace was on the child's family not the pedophile.

In reality, today the Internet and social media are one way to reach kids.
The pedophiles meet them there, why not the police?
There are some programs in Canada now, Police are acting out as children and are snaring Pedophiles. There is also a private group doing the same with even better results,,,, until someone told them it is not lawful for them to snare pedophiles... When they do catch them it all gets posted on Social Media. Apparently that is in violation of their ''Charter of Rights and Freedom''.
What the fu**. What about children rights ?

Russell,

The U.S. does those sting operations as well. I have seen them televised where the POS shows up with alcohol and condoms. Very satisfying to see them sweat when caught.

One would think (naively) that a high profile Baseball Player with a clean slate would do wonders on a Media Program to help stamp out Child Porn and molestation.
Do they exist?
What about the office of the Vice-president being accountable for introducing and monitoring the awareness plan.

Having lived in a barrio where most females have their
first child by the age of 16 I can tell you the majority of
these young teenage pregnancies are not committed by men
in their 30's and 40's. These young girls are impressed with
the guys in their late teens / early 20's who ride Super Gato's
and wear the latest Nike sneakers with fake gold chains.

This group of young men are the one's these organizations need
to focus on.

absolutely correct. which is why every gringo who has a Dominican novia needs to get a DNA test done when she says the baby is his. it is usually for some 19 year old guy who packs bags in the supermarket, and lives in his mother's living room. and, by the way, those Nikes are from the flea market, and they are fakes.

This is how 99% of the teenage pregnancies and underage sex in DR happen. (I doubt she is 18.) BTW the guy probably did have fake Jordans.:laugh::laugh:

UK has been working actively with Interpol and DR tracking child pornography regionally online.

http://pgr.gob.do/2017/01/24/procur...para-combatir-la-pornografia-infantil-online/

This will no doubt lead to the tracking down of foreigners involved in the region.

No offense but I think the UK needs to take care of the problems in their own country. I have read the articles about the authorities knowing about the existence of the "grooming gangs" and sitting on it for some time instead of attacking the problem. 3rd world countries are not the only ones guilty of cover up.
