true but here don't have to buy them food, TV accommodations are a lot rougher. so cheaper to house them here than in their home countries. Instead of deporting them the home country pay for their accommodations lol

yes, bienamor. next thing you know, some bleeding hearts in their homelands demand that they get internet and Netflix. i think the DR is better.

Child abuse has no place in first and fourth World conditions. It can virtually destroy new generations.
One Pervert can affect dozens of children who in-turn affect others...My God, they are just children and look to Adults for safety and guidance.
I know of a ''high end beeper prostitute '' who offered up her 14 year old Daughter for ''much pleasure''. And much Dollars.
None of my group took her up on it, but even today, years later, it still disgusts me.

I was never one for anarchy or mob violence ; but I think this would be an exception.

This is not just accusing ''dirty old men''....... there was a ''Dirty Old Woman'' in the North Coast who liked underage girls.
Fortunately she died of complications from pneumonia ... back in Europe.

Canada will repatriate convicted Canadians who were incarcerated for Pedophilia and re-try them for the crime... then give them a ''Vacation Extension'' in a Canadian prison., ever!

I have been around for 75 years and worked in dozens of 3rd world countries ; but I have never witnessed the public display of Pedophilia as I see in Dominican Republic. Very Sad!

A couple of years ago a Local Bishop was checked at the Canadian Border ; including his lap top ; arrested and incarcerated for a very long time. He was returning from Thailand. a) Catholic Priest, 2) Vacation in Thailand,3) laptop computer .... I wonder what gave him away? Yup, Canada does profiling. Arrests and Prison terms.

Got to get back to work.

They need to clean their own house first, before lumping all the blame on scummy foreigners.
Plenty of "scummy" Dominicans profit and are enablers of child prostitution in the DR.

Instead of just talking about it, actually be proactive and do something about it!

I'm not sure why she thinks the gov will do anything up here in Sosua when they haven't done anything "next door" down there in Boca Chica(?).

they are shocked with the moral degradation that is seen at all hours of the day.

What moral degradation is there during the day?

I walk down town regularly in the mornings and afternoons and don't see this... other than the one or two regular locals passed out on the sidewalk.

Or perhaps those less fortunate asking for help. At least, I don't notice it much different than in Santo Domingo.

In the night time the 'kids' that I see that are out on the street, are the younger sons, or cousins who are out, fist-bumping and asking for money. As they grow older, they're 'gererally' are the ones that become more agressive towards others.

There is one young woman, who is 21 but looks 15. Beyond that, I really don't see the 'in your face' child prostitution that I'm reading about here.

I think it's easy to mistake an old gringo walking around here with their child (I know a fair number), and perhaps their child was born from a mother of a questionable age...

I'm not saying it's not happening; it certainly has, but come on.

Focus on the crazy motos pulling wheelies down the street, or the guys shovelling snow in the south instead...

""She also said that many of the foreign men that visit Sosua are, basically, the scum of the earth.""

I used to ask my Dominican friends in Sosua who were born and raised up there how they felt
about gringos coming from all over the world to bang their women. Every single one of them
basically said the same thing. If they were to kick all of us gringos out of the country tomorrow,
there would still be prostitution... the only difference? The girls would make a lot less and it wouldn't be enough to support all of the local businesses in places like Sosua or BC.

My wife tell me that in the 1960s and 70s growing up in Jarabacoa she remembers at least 3 whorehouses, one with a block of whre she lived. There were almost no foreign tourists in those days.

The oldest profession in the world. Gringo's didn't bring it to the DR but they certainly have helped perpetuate it. There will always be ladies of the night and johns.

There are not enough gringo's in the country to keep the Cabana's on San Isidro open. let alone the rest of the country.

I see these two women promoting themselves, using an emotional and disturbing subject.

I hazard a guess that foreign sex tourism in the Dr is 1% of total tourism.

Illegal child pornography 0.01% of tourism, as it is prosecuted by all western foreign governments if committed anywhere in the world.

Actuaries can weigh in with their estimates.

If these women and the DR government want to address the problem they will have to become active where this activity takes place.
That is amongst the Dominican population in neighbourhoods and barrios, committed to almost 100% by Dominicans.

Last Night in Luperon a young girl; probably only 14 years old , hit the streets with her new get-up. Seductive smiles and inferences that she is for sale. The walk, the wiggle and the smiles to the Gringos especially.... Poor family, Haitian extraction,
It still is difficult to comprehend .... then again I am just an old fart ! Who just cares.

Wondering how certain those percentages are and where did you get them from?

Every Campo, Barrio, Pueblo, City that i have been to in the DR boasts from at least one Cabaña up to thousands depending on the population.

That does not even count the short time hotels.

As far as Lobo's Percentages he stated what he believed not actual stats.

every campo also has a cathouse, known as a ''negocio''. many foreigners in this country only know of places like Sosua, and Boca Chica, but there are unknown towns behind God's back which have some rip snorting bordellos. Altamira, Montellano, Payita near Cabrera, Rio Burende, all come to mind. how do i know this, you ask? a friend told me.
