woman, i swear to you, i the UK i would not even look at a dona twice, it would be like falling for an animation worker :)
but after four years in DR with no dona in sight i felt ready to rip limbs and cut throats for a proper doughnut.
and yes, european style bakery would be lovely. do you know that i regularly dream about visiting cukiernia (reposteria in polish)? shame i cannot bake to save my life. just about the only desert i can make is tiramisu and i do not make it often because i eat the entire pan (large size) in two days

I have no idea what reposteria is and can't bake either :(. My Mom makes great crepes (bliny in Russian). They can be served with all kinds of fillings inside - from fruit, chocolate, cottage cheese to caviar. Everyone loves those. There are so many bakeries that serve those in Russia! I am sure someone can add those to the menu of their own establishment.

i can make both crepes and pancakes but alas, not bliny. i tried to look for a recipe but some say sour cream, some say cream, some say buttermilk, some say kefir. geez!
i do not even know what they mean by cream: single? double? whipping?

My Mom uses 4 eggs and 4 cups of milk with 10 large serving spoons of flour, one tea spoon of soda, some vanilla, 2 large spoons sugar, plus 2 tea spoons of oil. The dough should be kind of liquid, so that you can spread it across the pan.

Ok, finally i had 2 KK doughnuts the other day. Robert bought like 6 of them. He ate 2 and me and my GF ate the other 4. I am glad I had them, because now I can rest assure, I will not be eating anymore of these in a long time. Just too damn sweet and no better than any other doughnuts in USA.
Thanks KK but no thanks.

In all fairness to Krispy Kreme in the U.S.A., those in Santo Domngo are good, but not 100% up to par with the ones in the U.S.A.. as far as the dough is concerned.

Sweet? Yes! - Same? No!

Many franchises also have other sales channels. For example, I know that the Dominican Baskin Robbins also sell prepackaged ice cream in the supermarkets and to various hotels and resorts.

Many also offer the delivery option and that's how they get most of their sales.

They have no customers these days!
cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

Ahhhhh!

Yup! Just like the many Malls for the last 8 years on the brink to extinction or the myriad of other biz that were "said" to be doomed in the DR list?????

Wait! Add this one to the total failure of the SD Metro Line 1, which barely has 25,000 riders a day on average *according to experts here posting...

The big flop that's Blue Mall! What were they thinking? Right?

Or the empty cave that IKEA is nowadays? No?

The HardRock biz in the DR are between their backs and a "hard rock" too! No?

Keep them coming!

I think you'll find users and riders are different. A return journey is classed as two rides.

Our office is 2 mins away from Blue Mall, so I visit often.
The only person I have seen buy anything in a shop is me.
I brought some stuff in the Columbia store and it was cheaper than I could buy it off Amazon and have it shipped EPS :)

The Blue Mall food places get busy, but I don't see any real shopping going on.

Sorry Robert that don't cut it. As we all know Pichardo's (tia, cousin, nephew) who lives in santo domingo, and tells he who lives in santiago that everything is going balls to the wall here. and they know much more than the others who live here.

The DR is leading the Caribbean, Central and South America in the expansion of overpriced, artery cloggiing American style franchise food outlets. The profits are buying some extravagant Yipetas for the owners.

Let them eat donuts. :cross-eye

Each store caters to a different segment of buyers, some are more transited than others. The ones on the higher end are seldom seen with more than 4 or 3 clients at any given time. This is true everywhere you go to high end strips, even the famous Omotesando in Japan is well known for the foot people that transit on the outside and the very few that can be seen doing the actual "buying".

This is the same as it happens when you try and compare the crowded beaches like Cabarete to those secluded and private in Cap Cana. If you visit Casa de Campo during a regular weekday, you would swear that it was empty and a big flop by the looks of the deserted greens and streets.

The tempo of the shops at sites like Blue Mall is not about foot traffic but purchase power and tags.

Sooo.. You're rubbin' it-in to the onlookers here that you "shop" at Blue Mall? LOL!!!

Robert, plenty of buying going on all around the shops at Blue Mall! Thing is that the hustle is not what you are used to appreciate in Malls and plazas in the DR, and pretty much 99% of US Malls for that same ratio.

As you said it, the food court gets busier and that's the only thing in common with other Malls in the DR and in the US for the same token.

But to say people are not buying as you see it, is more than stretching the truth a bit more than your usual self...

Blue Mall just recently started operations with the Mall half built, and so far it has overachieved the short term goals pretty good.

I'm posting my observations, no idea if that translates into reality for the store owners. I have been there maybe 30x since it opened.

I agree JD, the eye candy is nice :)

Actually Pichardo, I don't shop there, I just go to people watch, eat, and the movies.

The exclusivity of Blue Mall is reflected in a lot of the....um..... female shoppers that go there.

The place definitely gets some nice eye candy!!

Is there really any other reason for a completely healthy male to visit a Mall? Let me know when you find one! I'm interested to find out my underlying "true" motives as well!
