tanning beds is a good idea. finally no tanning lines and no burns from the sun. i like!
i don't get this sock thingy? why not buy a washing machine?

I would loooove a tanning bed in Sosua....as you said...no tan lines, and then I can tan in a controlled environment, and just lather up on the sunscreen when I'm outside.

Local Dominicans wouldn't use it though...they want to be lighter, not darker.

A lady that used to clean my house for a short while informed me that she showered with a little bit of cloro (bleach) in the water, so that she could become more light like me......!!!!!!!!!:paranoid::ermm::tired:

I tried explaining to her that in other countries we PAY $$$$ to lay in beds that turn us dark....she didn't believe me :p:cheeky:

I think an information center would be nice somewhere in the center of town.

WHAT???? ........ That would put DR1 out of business in NO TIME!!! :cheeky: :ermm:

Anyway, there are about 30 'Information Centres' near to the centre of Sosua, ....... check out the experts that sit at the bars most of the day!! ;) :paranoid:

Are you looking at this #1 Business Service to be profitable or are you suggesting it should be funded by the ayuntamiento/donations/volunteers? ~ Grahame.

What is wrong with the one next door to Colegio Luis Hess?

Perhaps you missed it, since you don't live in the DR!

what about a "good" lawyer to deal with turistas problems like false accusations of theft/drug dealing etc. in other word someone who would work out a good deal with the police: 1000-5000 dollars per head split 50/50 between lawyer and the police and tourist out of the arrest in no time.

a cinema, mentioned earlier, is not a bad idea. not necessarily recent movies, i am sure many ladies would love to see "casablanca" or "dirty dancing" for the 10th time. and some may enjoy action night (all "rambo" movies or all "die hard" in one go) or horror night etc.

heck, one could even have adult movies after midnight. ;)

By all mean, we are targets too and a good lawyer or lawyers for cons against us would be great.

MRJone, were you asking about the cinema, because you actually plan to set this up? Or this is just sort of a "for interest sake" thread?
If you are going to set it up, I will be one of the first in line to buy tickets when the cinema opens...
Heyyyyy...I wonder how a drive-in theater would work in the DR????...I LOVE those!

Well, to be honest, I have not plans to start any business in Sosua at this time, sorry. This is just for interest sake only.

Darn...well maybe someone else will get an idea from this thread!!! :) ;)

I really think a drive in would be pretty cool down there...but not sure how it would actually work out....

i did not really mean the lawyer to be good. just "good". ;)
someone in cahoots with the police, who would show up in the arrest, talk to turista, pretend to talk to the police and then come back with the deal: "you pay this and that much and you are out of the prison today".
of course it would be best for people NOT to be conned but if they are it would be great to have a quick and sure way out of the situation.

also, re: tanning salon. the idea itself is good but i am afraid it is not easily doable.
one would need at least 2 beds. each is about 1000 dollars (for good quality).
add shipment and aduanas.
add maintenance costs: changing lamps, fixing if broken.
add rent.
sun beds use quite a lot of power so cost of running would be substantial. not to mention that tanning salon would have to be located in 24hr power area and owners would need a generator anyway just in case.

I think a Viagra wholesaler store would be great for those Sosua residents suffering from an enlarged prostate.

Drive-In movie

The drive in movie could be a great idea. Good weather, lack of competition (inside or outside).

My experience has been that the movie-showing business is a low margin situation. To make the investment worthwhile, one needs to maximize the revenue.

The only way I ever made money in the drive-in business was to offer a good matinee package.

That drove revenues thru the roof !!!

I'm all in !!!
