I believe if you saw first hand the area where they want to build the casino and the traffic mess that already exists you would be more sympathetic towards the residents.

I know my two pesos don't count but I hope it never gets built in that area.

IDK the area at all, just curious. But if it is already a traffic mess why would a hotel make it any worse. I looked at the
renderings of the hotel and the area looks to be mixed use, mid rise residential, office space, and urban dense. A shopping mall
or an office building where thousands work daily brings more noise traffic than a hotel.

The traffic in that part of city is real bad! Difference between a shopping mall, which also would cause a big traffic congestion there, or res. high rise, is the Hotels with
Casino and bars do cause more partying, drinking and chicas and the fallout surrounding these.
Unrelated is, this city has no real infrastructure below ground to accommodate water and sewage as it is, you can smell the foul odors around the city because of it. Image now a few hundred or more toilets flushing, garbage disposal etc. etc.
You must remember there is no quality engineering or inspections done, thats mostly a pipe dream. Those are done by paying the piper and they never even show up. I think the city should stopp all new construction until they figure out critical services like water and electricity supply and more importantly sewage treatment plants.
I read recently you need to be within 5 miles of Puerto Rica to find fish that isn't spending its days eating sewage from our toilets. This is another ignored crisis here.

www.
The community does not object the construction of the hotel as long as it meets the current zoning restriction that is a maximum of 23 floors (including seven underground floors).

The mega casino -- biggest in the country -- and almost the same size as that Hard Rock has in Las Vegas, is what is objected.

The conference center has a large hall that would be used -- as occurs with the similar Fillmore Hall in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana -- for shows, etc. In Punta Cana, for the Romeo Santos concert, a parking space with capacity for 4,000 vehicles has been prepared. The Santo Domingo hotel only contemplates 520 parking spaces (and you have to factor in how many of those will be taken by the people that work at the hotel and entertainment complex.

Its nice they will have a huge event room which makes sense, but everytime there is an event the additional cars or taxis to bring customers will shut the city center down. I have sat in that traffic for 2 hours to go a few miles, without this! They would need add a new metro line station that connect from JFK down lincoln to the Hotel

Isnt that the decade old building that was found to be unsafe only after it got that far, how? you ask, because again inspectors show or dont show depending who pays what. Add to that many dont know what their looking at and bingo this happens. If im not mistaken its either this skeleton or the one close it where once condemned the developer committed suicide because of the incurred debt. Would be great for someone or something to take this on.

With a wrecking ball? Don't worry, someone with money to launder will come along.

I think it's the one that they realized was missing at least one support beam in the center of the building.

i think that the structure was found to be unsafe or something?

not sure about the situation regarding the ownership of the land but even if someone bought it it would be very expensive to demolish the building.

there was another article afterwards that said junta de vecinos will take this case all the way to tribunal constitucional. so they ain't gonna have smooth sailing with the construction.

In Los Cacicazgos there was a hotel tower to be build, as part of hotel Dominican fiesta. Neighborhood successfully blocked it and the structure is standing idle (half finished).

However now they have a MUCH higher tower right in their backyard that was built on Anacaona avenue.

Ambiguous comment about the court in the second paragraph.

Hard Rock scrubs 38-floor planned hotel in Dominican capital

Santo Domingo.- National District mayor David Collado, on Friday said he was informed Thursday that Hard Rock hotel has decided against building a property at the heart of the Dominican capital.

“City Hall stands firm and will abide by the court’s decision,” Collado said, quoted by diariolibre.com.

Several neighborhood boards had staunchly opposed the construction of the project’s controversial hotel, despite president Danilo Medina had headed groundbreaking. The National Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) had also announced its support.

The nearby residents argued that the permits issued by the National District City Council during the past administration violated zoning and environmental laws and regulations, which restrict constructions in that area to 23 floors, where the Hard Rock project has 38.

Miriam Paulino, attorney for the residents in the Piantini-Naco area, said the work violated municipal resolution 94-98, and that the project didn’t comply with traffic requirements, and was short on parking lots.

Apparently 2 floors had already been scrubbed since we last heard of it here.
