If the top ten list is going to be a respectable list, it would not include artists such as Omega. Sorry, but as much as I like Omega, I think I forgot his latest hit already. His music, much like him, won't last.

I think that after all of the input from everyone, I am ready to post the official DR1's top ten merengues of all times.
Anyone else has any other input.

also merengues by foreigners from paper straight to merengue. Olga Tanon from Puerto Rico comes to mind, but I'm not sure if most of her songs are fusilajes. I don't think " muchacho malo" is one, it should be out there among the top 50.

Even though she's from Puerto Rico and maybe not 100% "authentic" merengue...she should get points for being...HOT! :bunny:

I still don't appreciate Merengue. I think I'm missing that one rum infused night dancing at a discotheque with incredibly beautiful women dancing in that scintillating way to bring me around maybe punctuated by a terrifying taxi ride home.

But, I plugged some of these into my Pandora. Maybe, I can "get it". Thanks for digging up the list.

You are right and the solution is to just keep listening to older style merengues. They will live on for as long as you want them to. I looked at my list in post #9 and I still agree with it nine years later. Just this week I listened to some classics by T. Rosario- Jenny, No me hagas sufrir etc. these songs are nice merengue. This morning I switched to bachata, my guy Raulin R- Que Vuelva. What a song! Again the classics of certain artists are the best. I could not name you a song from modern day bachata. It does not interest me.
