Besy Food in Sosua

The best food in Sosua can be found at The New York Shark Bar on Sosua beach. The owner, Lou, has gone to great lengths to make sure all the food he has is top quality. The food includes imported U.S.D.A. beef hamburgers, imported hot dogs, Italian Saugage and Peppers, an excellent Cheese Steak that is so much better than a Philly cheese steak he had to call it a New York cheese steak and hand cut french fries made with Idaho Russet potatoes and cooked "coney island" style. There are also a set of appetizers that could pass for a meal. The atmosphere is great with rock-n-roll curtesy of Sirius satellite radio and most major sporting events on the TV. Combine all this with its location on beautiful Sosua beach and I think it is unrivalled in the Dominican Republic.

For awesome Dominican food in SD (Colonial Zone) Maison d' Bari - excellent food, incredible atmosphere, great staff and very reasonable prices...

For Spanish food in SD, a few blocks off the Malecon the best is Don Pepe .(as mentioned in a few other posts)- DEFINITELY try the cerviche, although they call it something else...and they have the fish and lobsters on display for you to choose.

In Sosua, on the beach... I believe the Adrian's on the beach referred to in previous posts is actually ANDRE's... they do have the best (and probably least expensive) whole fried fish on the beach, and a fairly extensive menu.

As for the Shark Bar...it's a great place, with a great location, nice staff and cool owner...but c'mon... it would hardly be in ANYONE's best restaurant list...to be fair, it's a beach bar with a BBQ grill, not a restaurant!

Best all-around restaurant in the DR for value, atmosphere, breakfast, food...and FREE high speed internet and wifi access is ROCKY'S in Sosua!!!

You can visit and enjoy the atmosphere of an over-priced restaurant without having to file a chapter 7 or 13. Just order something simple such as a ceasar salad and mineral water.

Asian family in Santiago?

MR HB, sent me to a restaurant that he preferred... and it was quality food, and quantity. Went there three times, and the food was consistent....but the nice thing was sitting at the bar before hand having some drinks, knowing when you go to your table, that your food was going to be very good and service was impeccable. ;) but for the life of me I do not remember the name of the restaurant?

I didnt go to many real resturants while in the DR..we ate many many places, side of the road joints and some open air places to the vendors with their carts...but one nice dinner was had in Santiago at the nice hotel next to the Casino....I forget the name of the casino....I spent the night at a hotel casino three years ago and it was NOTHING like this place..so is it possible there are 2 casino-hotels in Santiago?.. the one three years ago had alot of history to it... the one I went to this year was all new and nice...anyway, they offered a buffet in one area and a formal sit down dinner in another. We chose the sit down. They waited on us hand and foot, very nice. We had several waiters serving us and pouring our wine. The food was very good as well... I forgot and ordered Filet mingon and realized once it came that filet in the DR isnt the best cut of meat like it is in the US... but is was still very good. Desert was on a roll around table and set for the night, so when a desert is gone its gone...They had maybe 3 that were finnished, but the choices were still good.. all in all I really liked it. And while my girlfriend isnt from a poor family, she had never had a dinner like that before, and itwas a real special treat for her. The total bill came in on my CC this past week..$110 US thats with a good tip included. Check it out at least once if in town.......
on another note..on my first trip 3 years ago we stopped in santiago around 2 am on the way back from a hunting trip down on the southern coast over near Haiti... and the other guys were real hungry and stopped to check out a guy with one of those street carts on the curb near a park area in town. the guy was serving PORK!!!!!! warning bells went off all over my head...first do i want to eat pork in the DR, second do i want to eat it on the side of the street with water running down the curb under foot, and do i want to eat it at 2am from a guy cooking it on his cart???????..but not wanting to be a spoiler to something everyone else was ready to dive into..I went along and crossed my fingers....best pork sandwhich I can ever remember!!!!! no side effects at all!!!!!!!! thank you! The DR never ceases to amaze me......bob

I took my mother, novia, and her friend there mid week. I found it to be most excellent-food, service, and atmosphere. We ate and drank with abandon, sparing nothing. Cost RD$4200, and worth every penny of it. Best pina colada I've ever had-and the staff even cracked the coconut it came in, and served the fresh coconut on a plate, all cut into small pieces with a cherry stuck on each one with a fuzzy toothpick.

Highly recommend.

they used to have dancing at the meson de la cava. it's an excellent spot for a romantic date! i like adrian's on the malecon for dominican food, especially for a foreign guest. why has no one mention the Dragon House on the Mejia Ricart? i know many chinese people who like to go there-although it's not too pretty- as well as the Palacio de Jade- in one of the little roads off the Malecon (right near adrian's as a matter of fact) Jade has excellent food- excellent dumsim on sundays! it's very nice and clean and exotic. and, hey, for an affordable italian, how about La Lasgna on the Mejia Ricart (across the street from the Dragon House).
there are many nice restaurants- Pappalapasta still in business? it used to be good.

Restaurants

Santo Domingo:

Outback Steakhouse and TGIFridays for Good Old American Style Franchise Food. Tourists probably will not like it, but for those who have not been home in awhile it is a good treat.

Adrian Tropical: Really great Dominican Food

Yatoba (I think???): Great Fine Dining/AWESOME SERVICE

Samurai: Great Japanese Food

Santiago:

Capresso: Wonderful Food you would not find normally in the DR

Decano: Excellent Shrimps

Jade: Very Good Chinese Food

Cabarete:

Cabarete does not have anything real fabulous, however there was a Hotel in Pro Cab that was doing a Asian Night for awhile that was great. Then Papy's had some great shrimps. Lax has a few nice things.

Sosua:

Forget the name but a Thai restaurant that used to be in Cabarete opened up there and was pretty good.

Pier Georgio (I think the name- La Puntilla or something): Overly Priced and was not impressed.

Puerto Plata:

Cafe Cito ROCKS

Best restaurants

One of my favourite restaurants is Blue House on San Isidro. The food and service is always very good, the seafood is always very fresh, the restaurant also has a very nice and quiet atmosposhere.

Neptuno in Boca Chica

There is a very delicious and romantic restaurant called Neptuno in Boca Chica. Their phone number is 809-523-4703.

Reservations is required if you want good seats. Half of the restaurant is built on top of the ocean. So while you are seated, you can see fish in the ocean.

I went here with my friend and his wife for lunch. In total, we ordered three beers, three Pina Coladas, two appetizers and three entrees. The price came out to around 1,800 pesos.

The view and food are EXCELLENT!!!

I've been to Vesuvio a few times. The food was just "good". Nothing special. But this is just my 2 cents.

But Vesuvio is quite expensive.

I do not know any other Italian restaurant. Hopefully someone else can answer your question.

Santiago

A place referred to in English... called the Golden Fish. I have never had a bad meal from this restaurant. People who live in Santiago know the name and I'm sure...... will say the same.I would recommend this restaurant for tourists....that enjoy a very nice atmosphere, service, and quality of food.
