Some people chose to move the conversation in another direction, which is just silly.

So, seven of the last seven posts are all yours, but others are trying to control the conversation? Amusing.

As is trying to lecture Africaida and others on the distinctions between african-derived hairstyles.

Back on topic. The sankies and sankiettes dress themselves in whatever way they think will attract gringos to them. Many are looking for the "authentic" local, and folks are willing to play the part.

At the end of the day, it's a job, the oldest one on earth. All is well, until someone catches feelings. It's human nature, I suppose. If I had an Alina Vargas type making goo-goo eyes at me, I'd start thinking about substantially increasing my time in DR, too, lol. It would be my "sunshine" moment:

Sankies/Sankettes (?) I believe had their time. While of course they still exist social media has put a crimp in their game. Kind of hard to play multiple partners when everyone is posting on social media. Still a firm believer that whatever happens on vacation stays on vacation.

Although Boca Chica is 37 kilometers in distance from Santo Domingo, the rest of the narrative within this paragraph is false. Boca Chica and Juan Dolio combined, as stated together, do not come close to the numbers in average annual occupance rate of tourist establishments in La Romana-Bayahibe or Bavaro-Punta Cana. Even if you added in Guayacanes, which is in between, the numbers can't compete. Not in high season, not in low season, not in any season.....as currently exist in the year 2017, and it has been as such for a while now. Reports can report all they want, that does not make them reality. All you have to do is read some of the threads here on DR1 in regards to the towns along the south coast, ask those who live here, or come for a visit yourself to obtain the true facts. If you'd like, come for a visit, PM me, and I'll show you around. You can make up your own decision.

Chillax brother

I was just trying to get an understanding of your logic. Nothing more.

How I interpret this data is that the journalist who wrote this article does not have the experience, knowledge or time to thoroughly research, visit or survey these areas. Hence she cannot determine or convey an estimate of the occupancy in that area from a n>30 samples size with a high level of confidence. Likely due to time constraints, working on other articles and the lack of necessity to produce such robust results she chooses a different path. Even if she thought that the occupancy is way lower, stating this in writing in a newspaper will make her liable and responsible for misconstrued facts. Its a risk that she is willing to delegate to another party. And this party is an official source of information. She quoted that the occupancy figures were provided by data from the Central Bank. She delegated that research and I see nothing wrong with that. Yes, the Central Bank could be incorrect or the methodology used to produce these numbers could be off. However the logic would tell me that she relying on an official source and delegating that research doesn't diminish the credibility of the rest of the article like you implied.

I chose to move the topic by simply asking about the man's accent. I wrote braids precisely to avoid using the term dread locks. Some people (especially those who use the word "woke) find the term dread locks offensive and prefer locks. Sometimes spelled loks.

I considered that based on his appearance I thought he might be Haitian. Didn't look cocolo to me.

In the USA it is rare to find a Dominican who looks like him.

I find speaking Spanish with Haitians in the dr is easier for me precisely because we are second language speakers. But this guy sounded like a native speaker with an accent.

he didn't sound Haitian to me at all, I don't remember who was the user that brought that up.

Anyways, Haitian or Dominican it doesn't matter. A sanki is a sanki and women will flock. I have always had the impression that mostly they score with older, heavier women but the claim that they seduce young attractive ones is interesting. These young ones also send money and fall for them?

My reasoning boils to this: If you are fairly unattractive (I believe this is a relative concept, but wtv) you will get hit on way less (not to say ever) during your lifetime. You wouldn't develop the social skills and learn the tricks, ins and outs of seduction and flirting and become more gullible through time.

A very attractive woman will get hit on every single time she goes out. It will become customary to them and will develop a sharp sense of detecting all the BS man come up with just to bang. Social skills would be significantly greater and in turn they will be less naive and prone to falling to tricks.

I once joined the Dominican Sanky page on FB because I was curious, I think there are several of pages. I didn't last long and left, maybe it's my age, I wanted to smack some of the girls for being so stupid :) I can tell you that a lot of the girls who posted were really young and pretty, kind of blew my vision of who these sankies went after and who they caught.

Do you get TLC channel? If you do, check out "90 Day Fiance," an increasingly popular show focused on Americans who fall for folks in other countries. They bring them in, have to marry them in three months (hence the title), and then there's the issues of life afterwards.

This season, one of the couples includes Chantel from Atlanta, who married Pedro, who is from a DR beach (by way of Mao). Both are in their mid-20s, and make for a very attractive couple. Suffice to say the drama is most entertaining, lol.

Yes and no, Venao. First, there is a big gap between very attractive and unattractive, and I'd say most men/women fall into the middle.
On top of that, many comes from a culture where piropos or being hit on is a lot less common. When I was younger, I used to joke with my friends that is the reason I rarely date white guys because the one they weren't interested, but in reality many times, I simply didn't get the hint :p cause they are much less direct than Black and Latinos.

He didn't sound Haitian to me either, so I just played the video for my husband to get his opinion. He said he does not speak like a Haitian. If you read the article, though, it does say that he is of Haitian descent, probably born in DR. And cute dimples :)

The braids/dreads thing.... I mix them up all the time, I mean, I know the difference but I call them incorrectly.

gigolos

A widower friend of parents used to get discounted fares on cruises by promising to dance with the unescorted women..
Of which there were plenty.

Not that long ago.... it persists... helping people feel less lonely

Or allowing the helpless/hopeless to feel less so
I actually have a friend who gets comped cruises on senior vessels for this reason.

He lives in a senior's city, The Villages, and has an incredible love life with wimminzes falling all over him every day.

He went from a near recluse in St. Petersburg to a party animal in The Villages. It's kinda funny.

There is an entire network of single over 70 gents who go on these cruises.

He's my best friend, a retired Westy Army Col...

We have established Sankies and Gigolos are equivalent and we have discussed protected sex...

It's a worldwide phenomenon ..... men/women/casual sex
Regardless of age

Not really that far off target....
let's hear from the RD Old Age Homes..........
