True, everything is relative. But when you compare the salary, and perks (SUVs) the officials of the Dominican Olympic Committee and the Minister and deputy ministers of Sport get here, with what the top notch Dominican athletes get here, you will notice that there is no comparison to the way sports are handled in the UK.

Came in 6th, just .01 away from qualifying. A good showing from the DR nonetheless!

Felix Sanchez makes Dominicans proud winning his second gold in the Olympics. He won with the same time he made when winning his first gold in the Athens 2004 Olympics, as reported on local TV. He does honor to his name at the Olympic Stadium. If anyone had any doubts about if the name had been prematurely given to the Stadium, they no longer exist. He has won the first and third gold medal for the Dominican Republic. And he did so at 34 years of age! This is a true example of perseverance. It is confirmed by IAAF: "At 34 years old, Felix Sanchez also becomes the oldest ever champion and medallist in the 400H at the Olympics".

He almost didn't believe it himself. After winning he was so calm. He just took off his number, placed it on the floor and kissed it. It held a photo of his grandmother who raised him. And his shoes read: ABUELA.

Santos is stepping up to the traps, he is a favourite for this, come on boyo, 400mtr final!
Here we go.
Amazing!
Youngest ever!
What a star of now, and a whole universe of contention for the future, he's still developing.
It is rebound for being the toughest event in the whole competition, and he is just as cool as school.

I think I just wee' d myself a little.

Luguelin Santos gets silver in the 400m. He was a tenth of a second off his personal best time of 44.45. This kid deserves all the credit of the world because he is almost totally Dominican Republic-trained. He lives and trains in the DR and just recently joined the world athletics circuit (Diamond League) for some international competition. Luguelin has a bright career ahead of him.
Kirani James, Grenada, won with 43.94. His personal best was 44.36. He trains at the University of Alabama.
Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad & Tobago won bronze keeping the medals of this event in the Caribbean!

Yep, just saw this race live as well. it was exciting because, santos, was leading for a while, but then the tall Grenadian passed him, and then another guy looked like he was going to pass him, but then Santos, intiated a hyper drive or, what's known in the scientific community as--"Warp Drive" (AKA Lithium Crystals), and turned on the after-burners and held on to 2nd place.
