After reading thru this whole thread I now fully understand why AZB says some of the things he says on this site. Most foreigners come to DR and associate with the bottom of the socio economic scale and never associate with professional Dominicans. You all automatically assume its drug money or baseball players families who can afford these cars. Most of you need to get out of the ghettos and stop hanging with the Animacion teams from the all inclusives.
Anyone that thinks a measure of a man's wealth is in his watch deserves to be mocked. you respect people because they are wealthy? You are strange.
I have NEVER refered to white people as "crackers in my life it is NOT my style. Do you know that a BOX of Cracker Jacks has a PRIZE inside, and it is usually a CHEAP TOY? Then they will turn their costly sound system up to the point that it distorts, instead of turning it down just a bit until it sounds clean, they will then turn it up just a bit more. It isn't the quality that matters, its the quantity of the sound. That is another reason why high end stereo equipment is not a priority here.

Years back everybody laugh at JMB because I rented my apartment and leased my cars. JMB you are so STUPID why spend all this money on watches and you do not even OWN your home or your car they said. NOW in 2012 those homes are worth NOTHING and the cars that they finally payoff are worth 70% less then what they paid for them. Now if I have three watches that that total 32,000USD they ARE NOT worth 70% less then what I paid for them. THANKS MENTOR!!!
BTW I have not paid a car repair bill in over 7 years LEASING cars has its benefit. Also those people AREN"T laughing NO MAS!!!

The baja-panty thing all makes perfect sense. In any country. If you're looking to score, you want to oversell yourself. You get the hot girl for the night and that's it. She won't be around long enough to find out that you're destitute. If you're a more serious guy, you undersell. That way you filter out some of the more superficial girls and if one ends up sticking around she'll be pleasantly surprised to find that things are not always what they seem at first glance. Or she might not even care.

Joking aside, not sure why you're being so defensive. Most posters have acknowledged, myself included, that some of the nicer vehicles on the roads belong to professionals, entrepreneurs and pensioners/retirees.

I don't disagree with you about cars. Leasing is not a bad idea for some. I prefer to own my cars but each to their own. I might respect a wealthy person, but not because they are wealthy. Buying and selling real estate is all about right place, right time.
I just sold a house for $330, 000 that I bought 5 years ago for $260,000, and have done reasonably well on other properties that we rent out. I own a simple but elegant Citizen watch.

the reason why most foreigners who live here associate with the bottom rungs of society is because of the old adage that water finds its own level. most of these guys would not get the time of day from decent, educated Dominicans. the only reason people pay attention to them is because they have a few pesos, and light pigment, which goes a long way here. otherwise, many of them are just uneducated riff raff, who have convinced themselves that they are important, and special.
