New and current info on Moon Palace - Punta Cana
It is huge, tried to get a tour in late October, no dice, they would not allow anyone to see, saw some pics yeterday from the beach, far from finished, one year has passed for their opening and who knows when, I suspect Feb 2009, then it will be an expensive monster.
If those pictures are current, seems a long way off for opening day. I tried to book a week Feb 27 - March 6th through Air Canada Vacations, said its on the do not sell list. Then the AC rep said its sold out for a very large group!
Looking at the pictures, I'd say sold out for the construction workers.
Too bad, looks like I'm going back to Palma Real, anything better?

Those pictures are outdated.
I work here and it looks nothing like those pics anymore. That garden that is all brown, its all layered with grass already. and we painted already!
As soon as i can post pictures i will.
Opening is January 9. Those who have reservations for march are ok. Golf will be on site, 18 whole Jack Nicklause signature course. 35k sq ft casino, 14 pools, 11 restaurants.

did you mean at the mentioned opening date all those pools and restaurants will be open??

Moon Palace
I have a reservation to go to the Moon Palace through RCI in Feb of 2009. I called RCI and told them about this forum that I stumbled upon, and asked them if I do go there and this place looks ruff and unfinished what do they do. They said that they would give us our deposit back, I live in New York and the prospect of spending $800
dollors an airline ticket to be in an unfinished hotel is not sitting well with me. Should I be nervous???????

Please, someone must know if progress is being made at Moon Palace or what is happening there. I have a reservation and deposit through RCI (for March 6) and have been led to believe that the resort is far from finished and won't be in the near future. Any info. would be appreciated.

The last I had heard (from a Palace member) they plan to open about 700 rooms (half the resort) on Jan 10. Not all amenities will be ready by then; spa, casino and golf course will follow.

I cant say much for the inside of the resort, but i passed the front entrance today which has progressed from a wall of trees and bushes to some kind of grand entrance, however it still looks like a building site and far from finished. I realize this may not reflect the progress inside and may well be the last stage.
I am a member of Palace Resorts and here is their latest update on the DR Moon Palace Resort.

In order to keep clients informed about the progress of this resort, we include here the facilities that will be available at the time of the opening: 12 outdoor pools, 3 kids pools with water toys & toboggan, 4 swim up bars, sunbathing area, kids club, 6 restaurants (Tao, Spaggo, Los Gallos, Lucca, Marina Grill, and Samba) , all snack bars and bars with the exception of the casino bar, the sports bar and and the bar at the night club. Gift shops, boutiques, spa boutique, jewelry stores, deli shops, and flower shops will also be open.
The golf course is expected to have 9 holes ready by June and the back 9 by September. The spa facilities are scheduled to be ready by January 31st. Facilities such as the tennis courts, fitness center and Xtreme Center should be available by last week of February. The Casino is slated to open by the end of March.

Moon Palace has contacted me about my show so i will be going there for a meeting tomorrow with the animation manager and the hotel director.I am looking forward to having a bit of a snoop so i will report back tomorrow. Any info i can get from the staff as to if they are nervous about opening day or not and i will let you know.

from the talking in the prior post above translating such 'resort jargon' in real language i would not book there before at least summer 2009, and then only for a top great deal.

Meeting went very well, but my husband went on my behalf as my little girl came down with a terrible cold. From the brief call i had with him they want us to start doing the show there starting next week. If that is the case i will go along and snoop around lol, and try and get some photos.

We are scheduled to arrive there this Saturday, Jan. 10 and I will be posting photos and a review after we get back. Wish us luck! It's been very hard to get the latest information with photos from someone other than the resort. Also will be our first trip to DR. Does anyone know how to get in touch with someone from the Tropical Storm Bavaro Cruise?
